Getting there

My trip to Astoria, WA began Wednesday on the train from Bakersfield, CA. The train ride was relaxing with most of the preparing for the trip done. After getting my checked bike at the Union Station in Portland, I ran into a fellow Trans Am racer. We put out bikes together and exchanged phone numbers and then I was off to find food and catch my bus to Astoria... while he began his 100 mile journey by bike to Astoria.

Then on the bus ride I met two other bike packers. One guy from Montreal was on his way to Seaside to meet a friend, (who just this past year found out he had Lou Gering disease), and they were going to ride down the Pacific Coast to San Francisco. The other guy was from San Diego and he was going to ride various Adventure Cycling routes across the US heading to the Atlantic Coast. I advised him to try out Beartooth Highway and of course go through the UP (Upper Michigan).

On Friday, I met fellow Trans Am racers, Steve and Paul, in the parking lot of my hotel. Super nice guys.

Here's one of my awesome views from the train... the Willamette National Forest.

And my last view leaving Bakersfield:

That's it for now. I will post as much as I can.
A huge thanks to all my sponsors, friends and family for all their support.

Ciao. I Love you Ali and Finley.
